Referee applicants must take the NEPSAY Referee Certification course at their own expense. NPYSL will be provided with the names of all who pass the test. When an opening occurs, the Board will interview applicants from the pool that has taken and passed the NEPSAY Certification course. Applicants that are selected will be reimbursed for the certification class at that time. In addition the following apply: Age: The official NEPSAY minimum age is 14. NPYSL may allow children who are as young as 12 years of age, as of March 1 of the current year, to Referee at the discretion of the Board. These Children may be given occasional games on the U8 and U10 fields to allow them to gain experience.
Uniform: One Referee shirt (Yellow) will be provided by the league. The Referee coordinator will tell new referees how to obtain a shirt. Any replacement shirt is the responsibility of the Referee. Referees must provide and wear plain black shorts (no names, symbols etc).
Equipment: The league will provide a whistle and a stopwatch. This is to be maintained year to year by the Referee and must be replaced at the Referee's expense.
Assignments: Assignment of the number of games, time of games and field location is at the sole discretion of the Referee Coordinator. No Referee is guaranteed a specific number of games per week or season.
